Heteranthera zosterifolia is commonly called stargrass, due to the shape of its leaves. It is native to Brazil where it grows in still water and in marshy areas.

It does not make much demands in an aquarium and is an excellent beginner plant. Dense growth is easily achieved by cutting the stem. They flower easily if allowed to grow near to the water surface.

Stargrass can be used creatively in an aquarium and can be pruned short for the foreground, or left to grow tall for the midground or background.
